GASTONIA CHRISTMAS PARADE

Thank you for your interest in the 2006 Gastonia Jaycee Christmas Parade. Due to the increasing number of entries, it will be necessary for the Parade Planning Committee to approve each entry. To apply, simply complete the printable entry form (link below) and enclose the appropriate entry fee and mail it to the following address:

Parade Entry Deadline is Monday, Nov. 17, 2008

You will be notified if your entry is not accepted and your money will be refunded. All approved entries will need to attend a brief meeting at the City of Gastonia Police Department, 200 E. Long Ave. Gastonia, NC on Monday, December 1st at 6 pm. At that time we will distribute the line-up locations, maps, participation stickers, explain guidelines and answer any questions that you may have. Please make copies of the rules and regulations and other information from the parade packet and deliver them to your parade participants as soon as possible , you only have six (6) days prior to the parade.

The following Rules Must be Observed:
1. Absolutely NO candy or other items may be thrown from floats or vehicles per the Gastonia Police Department. This is to prevent children from running into the street and to avoid accidents. In the interest of public safety, police will be watching for this along the parade route.

2. You must decorate your entry with Christmas decorations. Entries are not to be used simply to advertise a company. Any music played or performed on your entry must be Christmas related.

3. No participant or person with an participant shall consume alcohol or drugs, before or during the parade and no entrant shall be admitted to particate if that entrant is inroxicated or impaired.

4. The following entry fees apply:
-- $100: Commercial or business entry.
-- $50: Pageant Winners/Queens, etc. (Note: Pageant winners/queens, etc., must pay $50 per person regardless of sponsoring organization's status: i.e., nonprofit, etc.).
-- $25: Non-profit organizations (outside of Gaston County).
-- FREE: Non-profit organizations (in Gaston County).

5. All money received is used to offset expenses incurred by the Gastonia Jaycees in putting on the parade. Any remaining money is donated to charities in Gaston County. Checks should be made payable to: Gastonia Jaycees. The parade will go on rain or shine -- no refunds.

6. Please direct any questions to the Parade Chairperson by leaving a message on the Jaycees' answering machine at 704-868-2058. Please leave an evening number as well as a daytime phone number and someone will return your call.

7. No entries involving controversial opinions or arguments (i.e., one side of a political or moral issue) will be allowed. Any questionable entries will be voted upon by the Jaycee Board of Directors.

8. We reserve the right to pull an entry and participant from the parade if (1) any portion of the entry is obscene or offensive to the public, (2) you do not disclose to us the type of entry you will have (description must be included on your entry form), (3) you have not decorated your entry appropriately, or (4) a participant or person with an entrant is disruptivem disorderly, intoxicated or otherwise disobeying the rules.

9.Any alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicating substances at the parade are strictly prohibited. Any person caught participating in the parade or in the parade line up area under the influence, including but not limited to operation of a float or any other parade vehicle will be reported to the police immediately, they and their group will be removed from the parade immediately and will be banned from the parade indefinitely.

10. You must arrange transportation to pick up your entry and participants at the end of the parade (Franklin Boulevard after Belvedere).

11. Come early to line up for the parade, which beings at 2pm. The area gets very congested by 12:30pm on parade day.

12. Remember: There really is a Santa Claus, so there can be only one in the Gastonia Christmas Parade and he has already scheduled to attend.
